Some Inspirations for Home Decoration

02.15.2013 by Icar //

Here I am again dreaming of designing a new home. It has became a hobby of mine to browse over Pinterest and other websites and look at home decorating tips. If you have browsed interior decorating websites or looked through one magazine after the other, then you might also wonder how do they come up with such great design ideas. And have you ever wondered how the pros do it?

I have found and article about some tips for home decorating at www.sheknows.com and here are the 7 Secrets of Home Decorators :

Borrow, beg and steal

There’s no need to change and turn everything inside out. Instead we can find inspiration from what others have done or are doing. You can check websites, blogs and magazines from there you can get ideas and inspiration and the incorporate it in your own space.

Look before you leap

In anything, a plan is very essential. Brainstorm about what styles you really want and enjoy. You must also consider the size, function and flow of your space to determine what pieces you will need. Keep a record for this plan handy-store your ideas in a file, including the measurements and material samples, that way it will always be handy when you need reference for your design plan. This way you won’t be wasting your hard earned money for unnecessary purchases and splurges.

I love the photo below with its simplicity and coziness, I like the combination of the pieces used in the overall design including the rug. Now in terms of cleaning the rug, an excellent option is available if you just contact a new york carpet cleaning company which will readily get the work done in no hassle.

Be unique

I have found this unique and beautiful piece below which will I think bring personality into a home. The tip here is to use your personality as guide for the pieces which you want to include in your home. Just like you, your pieces should be unique and altogether it will make a statement. You can also create a signature piece which will define what you want the total look to be. Don’t hesitate to take inspiration from any number of sources and search for designs that speak to you; for example, explore kilim furniture uk websites for some middle-eastern styles that can add a mystical and eclectic look. You can steer away from matching furniture sets, what you need to look for are one-of-a -kind finds which can sometimes be found on thrift stores and local shops. All you need is a playful mind.

Eclectic is just fine

There’s no need to play tug-of-war when it comes to picking a style. Over the years, modern design has gradually become more eclectic. This style is derived from the best elements of several different styles, which allows for more flexibility in your design decisions. The key to successful eclectic style is identifying the elements you wish to incorporate from other design styles. Choose two to three of your favorite styles to use as a reference, and then pick your favorite colors, finishes and furniture pieces from each style to create an eclectic blend.

Be cautious with trends

Trends change in a blink of an eye so just make sure to be careful with what you incorporate in a design. Paint and accessories are great selections for playing up current trends. Paint colors can easily be modified without spending a lot of money, and accessories can be exchanged to keep up with current styles. I would suggest stay with classic pieces that never goes out of style.

It doesn’t have to be perfect

There’s no such thing as perfect. Your decor should make your home feel “liveable”and not just merely for display. Make sure that your decor matches your lifestyle and make your home feel inviting. Personal touches are also a must-have in order your dream home come to life.

Never settle

In the end, your home is your shelter — it’s your safe haven. It’s there waiting for you after a long day’s work. It’s where your children play, and where your family gathers for birthdays, holidays and family reunions. Your home is where your memories are made, and it should make you feel happy. Never settle for less. Fill your home with things that you love, and you can’t go wrong!

What great tips! My main decorating tip is to keep your space personal; if it doesn't suit  you, it doesn't matter how stylish it is!

Great tips! We just decorated our dining room and since it is the middle room on the main floor and is pretty open, we went with a dark red (it took a year to convince my husband to agree to it because he is a naturals-only kinda guy). And he loves it almost as much as I do. Go out of your comfort zone sometimes.

Choose a good neutral palette for a foundation and then incorporate 2-3 accent colors. That way, if you want to change the look, your foundation is already in place.
