It’s always important to keep up with the cleaning that needs to be done around your home. If you don’t, it will keep piling up until you have a much bigger job on your hands that you would have done if you’d started earlier. On top of that, living in a messy, unclean house is bad for your mental health – and possibly your physical health too. So, if you want to get on top of your cleaning, no matter what the reason, it’s a good idea to make a plan.
A cleaning plan means you won’t have to do everything all at once. This is why many people put off their cleaning; they feel they don’t have time to do it during the week if they are at work, and they don’t want to spend their entire weekends making their house look good. If you have a cleaning plan, and you try to do one job every day, you will save time on the weekend, and you’ll feel much more accomplished. Plus, by giving yourself just one job to do, be it cleaning the bathroom, changing the bedclothes, vacuuming the house, or whatever else needs doing, your chores are much more manageable.
Some areas of your home need a little more attention than others, and it is these that you really do need to find time for, however and whenever you do it. Read on to find out what they are so that, when you are making your cleaning plan, you are sure to include them.
Kitchen Cabinets
The cabinets in your kitchen can become extremely dirty over time, and you may not even notice it. That’s because the dirt that sticks to them is grease from cooking. This can’t necessarily be seen, but if you touch your fingertip to the cabinet door, you will more than likely be able to feel the sticky residue left behind.
The first time you clean your kitchen cabinets, you are probably going to need to set aside a fair number of hours to get it done properly, or you might even choose to call in cleaning experts to do it on your behalf. Once this initial clean is done, however, you can add it to your plan and give your cabinets a good wipe down each week. This should allow you to keep on top of this particular job.
To make the cabinets less dirty between cleans, always make sure the extractor in your kitchen is working at optimum capacity. This will draw the grease and other particles away from surfaces so you will have less to clean.
Windows
Wiping down the interior of your windows is a job that should certainly be added to your cleaning schedule. It’s not a difficult job, and, with a clean cloth and the right glass cleaning solution which you can buy or make at home if you prefer something more natural, the job is one that can be done quickly.
However, although the inside of your windows is accounted for, what about the outside? When was the last time you cleaned the exterior? If it’s been a while, it might be time to do it again, especially if your windows are a true feature of your home as they would be if they came from Windows Green Bay. If your windows are only clean on the inside, you might still not be able to see out of them very well, and it will give a poor impression of your home, which no one wants.
To clean your upper storey windows safely, you have a few different options. You can hire a professional window cleaning service (like Aqua Pro) to do it for you, you can purchase window cleaning poles so you don’t have to climb up high to clean, you can use a ladder, or you can clean them from the inside by opening them and reaching around. This last option is particularly dangerous, so do be aware of this before you start.
Wooden Floors
If you have wooden floors in your home, you’ll need to make a special effort to keep them clean and looking as beautiful as they should do. What you must not do when you have wooden floors is mop them every single week – if you do this, you run the risk of getting them too wet, and when this happens and water seeps into them, they can be completely ruined.
The best option for cleaning wooden floors is to use a soft broom to gently sweep any dust and debris away from them. After that, you can use specialist floor polish to keep them looking shiny. This should be carefully rubbed into the floor using a soft cloth. Be aware that this polish doesn’t need to be used every time you clean the floors – every three months or so should be sufficient.
Also remember that using this special floor polish will leave your wooden floors slippery for a little while until the polish completely seeps into the wood – be careful as falling onto wooden floors can be painful and cause injuries.
Dishwasher
The idea of cleaning your dishwasher might not spring to mind when you’re making sure every inch of your home is scrubbed. After all, the dishwasher’s entire job is to clean, so why would you think about cleaning it yourself?
Although the dishwasher’s job is to clean, it isn’t self-cleaning; you will need to help it along. Again, this is not a job that has to be done every week – every six months might be enough, although it will depend on how often it is used (if it’s used a lot, you may need to clean it more regularly). It’s not the most pleasant job in the world as it involves taking out the filter and removing old bits of food, but when it’s done, you’ll know that your crockery and utensils really are coming out clean.
When you’ve finished scrubbing, to give it a thorough clean, you should add baking soda to the dishwasher and run it on its hottest wash.
