Winter is on the way out, we’re moving into spring, and that means summer is going to be around the corner in no time at all. And if you’ve got young kids, you know that the warmer months of the year always manage to creep up on you!
That’s why it’s good to start getting ready for the year ahead right now; get the prep work out of the way and the kids will be more than entertained once it starts properly warming up. Eliminate the stress of summer by getting ahead of the curve! And to help you get started on your checklist, we’ve got three things to do right now listed below.
Secure Your Day Trip Tickets as Early as Possible
If you and the kids like to go on day trips when the warm weather floats in, get your tickets for these sorted out as soon as you’re able to. Buy tickets in the ‘off’ season, like right before the spring really kicks in, to ensure you get the best possible price.
Doing this now will also give you a lot more time to think through the best trips to do this year, or consider how much spare time you’ll have to squeeze as many in as possible. Deciding the schedule and the variance now can save on a lot of disappointment later on.
Make Sure the Garden is Safe and Clean
Warmer weather means days spent in the garden, even if you’ve got a smaller one to make use of. Really, if the kids have room to play any game of any kind, they’re going to want to head out there! And because of that, you’re going to need some time to get the garden safe and clean again.
Winter is rough on gardens. Rotten leaves may be on the ground, your soil may be slightly frozen, and a lot of debris may have built up from the wet and windy weather. Start the organization job now to ensure you’ve got plenty of weeks ahead to get it all cleared.
Start with the biggest jobs, such as trash removal. Then move into pool maintenance, if you’ve got one out there. Go through the steps to keep your kiddie pool clean and apply them, seeing as it’s probably been a while since you last thought of anyone using it. Then you can start thinking about planting for the upcoming season, or setting up the patio, etc.
Think About Food Possibilities
Warm weather means backyard BBQs, picnics in the park, and eating out at restaurants! Just like with the day trips above, think about the food possibilities and how you can surprise the kids with lunch or dinner outside of the house. Get your hands on a picnic basket too!
Keeping the kids entertained gets trickier as the months go on. The warmer weather brings out more energy in them, and the sunshine makes them want to be outside. So, prepare now for success!
