Ready for New Flooring? Here are the Signs It’s Time to Upgrade

08.23.2023 by Icar //

There is something to be said about building a home that is truly yours and if you are in the midst of building one, then you know that exterior siding and interior paint and trim are all important. On top of that, flooring is just as important as anything else. You need your floors to not only look good, but you want them to feel good under your feet. The key is in knowing when your floors will need to be upgraded and for the house to look and function well.

The right flooring can help with this. Whether you are choosing cement floor tiles for the hallways or thicker carpets for the bedrooms, you have to think about upgrading the flooring as time goes on. Flooring doesn’t last forever and it does degrade over time. Upgrading the flooring to make your house function better is a smart decision and your floors need to be considered when you are making a list of renovations for the home. So, with this in mind, here are the signs you need to upgrade it:

  1. The floor is wearing out. It’s common for there to be a level of wear and tear with your flooring over time. This is caused because of moving furniture, regular and heavy traffic such as walking or running across the carpet. Even the claws of your pet can be a hazard to your flooring, and no one wants to look at shredded carpets or faded patterns, right? If you notice it, it might be time to start sizing up the costs of new flooring.
  2. The flooring is cracking. If you have lino or stone tiles, you might see cracks in your flooring as your home settles. Peeling vinyl, warped tiles and more are all going to be a hazard. You need a durable flooring option and so you should consider the materials that you have on hand. Choosing a flooring option that is more durable is important and you want it to last for a lot longer, too.
  3. You notice buckling. Sometimes, parts of the floor can become separated from the subfloor beneath it. If there is buckling happening there could be more moisture underneath the floor, which is going to create bigger problems long term. You seeing this is a sign that you need a change, and that means flooring shopping is in your future!
  4. There are uneven spots. Once you move into your house, you should feel happy with what you see. If you notice uneven spots of stretching in any of the areas, you need to upgrade so that your floors will be more stable. You might not have to replace the entire thing, but certain tiles or boards will be helpful!

New flooring can be pricey but you can shop around and find the right ones. Take the time to shop for flooring that makes your home look and feel like yours and you’ll thank yourself later for the fresh look!
