Things No One Told You About Raising a Toddler

06.16.2021 by Icar //

There’s hardly anything that can prepare you for life as a new parent. It’s essential to gather as much information as you can but have an open mind because your experience will be unique. One moment you’ll feel like you have everything, including your baby, in control, then the next, everything is falling apart.

Sometimes you’ll even wonder whether you are a good mother or if you’re going to make it out of the mess in one piece.

Many people agree that the first few weeks after childbirth are the most difficult as you try to get your baby and yourself into a routine while getting to know each other better. However, each milestone presents a different package of challenges. Here are some of the things that no one ever told you about raising a toddler.

Getting Them to Eat Their Food Is Not as Easy as It Sounds

Some babies have an excellent appetite and will gladly eat whatever you serve them. Sometimes they will even demand to be fed. In this case, the parent will find it easier to provide their child with foods that keep them healthy and strong.

Sadly, this does not apply to all parents. Most have to work harder and even consult pediatric clinics like Infinite Therapy Solutions to convince their children to eat something. It can be frustrating and depressing to deal with a picky eater because you don’t know how to make the toddler like their food.

The taste, texture, and the meal’s appearance can play a role in what a child prefers, but picky eating can be a deep-rooted problem. With the help of an expert therapist, you can get your child to love their food again.

Your House Can Be the Greatest Safety Concern for Your Child

Around the age of 6 months to 3 years, children’s curiosity is at its peak. The downside is, their brain is not yet fully developed to recognize when they are in danger. The stairs, wet floors, cooking stove, electrical wires, and your yard are some of the risks to address at this stage.

You should build a child-proof fence or gate around your swimming pool and supervise the child outdoors. Furthermore, in the house, have everything dangerous stored away from their reach and limit their movements to areas where it’s safe, like their bedroom and the living room.

To enhance safety, create a separate room and stock it with age-appropriate toys for your child to play with during the day. Playtime will distract them from exploring the other spaces. As you will realize, you can never be careful enough. Ensure you always have the child supervised. Install CCTV cameras in their room to monitor them when they are asleep.

Besides these two concerns, you’ll have to constantly keep up with your child’s energy levels and frequently clean your house because kids tend to be messy. Some also suffer from sleep regression which means that you will not get enough consistent sleep.
