5 Decor Tips To Get The Most Out Of Floor To Ceiling Windows

01.11.2021 by Icar //

Floor to ceiling windows can be a great feature and they let so much natural light into the room, making the space feel bright and open. But a lot of people don’t know how to decorate rooms with large windows in and they end up detracting from this amazing feature because they make simple design mistakes. When you have a house with luxury windows and doors fitted into it, it is important to know how to style them – especially when they are such a large part of the house. It’s important that you don’t overcrowd the windows and you make them a central feature of the room.

If you have floor to ceiling windows in your home, here are some handy decorating tips you need to follow.

Don’t Block The View

Having a large window in the room often means that you get a nice view, so make sure that you don’t block it. It can feel odd to have a large area of empty space in a room, which is why people make the mistake of putting furniture in front of the window. But this will block the view from the window and prevent the natural light from coming in, so make sure you keep that window uncovered. If you have a full wall of floor to ceiling windows, it’s best to place the majority of the furniture on the opposite side of the room. With one large window, let it stand alone and leave at least a few feet of empty space directly in front of it.

Dress It Up

A floor to ceiling window isn’t just a window, it’s a focal point in the room. As soon as people walk into the room, their eye will be drawn straight to the window, so put some thought into the window dressings that you use. Invest in some stylish Curtain and Drapery Rods to frame the window nicely, and think carefully about your choice of curtains. At night, when the curtains are closed, they will cover a significant portion of the wall. Instead of a simple window, it almost becomes a feature wall, so you can afford to experiment with the curtains a bit. Try out some bold patterns and colors or, alternatively, choose something that blends with the color on the walls for a minimalist look.

Use Furniture With A Light Visual Weight

Visual weight is an important concept in interior design. It refers to how heavy an object feels when you look at it rather than how much it actually weighs. For example, an ornate wooden coffee table has a much higher visual weight than a sleek glass one. When decorating a room with floor to ceiling windows, you need to consider the visual weight of all of the furniture that you use and look for pieces with a low weight. The natural light created by large windows is one of the best features in the room but bulky furniture with a high visual weight will block and absorb a lot of that light. You can create a much nicer atmosphere by using glass furniture or anything with a slim profile and choosing light colors over dark ones. Reflective surfaces also have a low visual weight, so anything with a metallic finish works brilliantly.

Use Soft Edges

Getting the right balance of hard and soft edges is important. If you have too many angular pieces of furniture, it can make a room feel uninviting. This is often a problem in rooms with floor to ceiling windows because the focal point is a large square shaped window. You must offset that shape with some soft edges elsewhere in the room. Using a circular coffee table, for example, is a simple way to add more variety. In some cases, you might decide that you want a modern, minimalist look with lots of sharp lines and that’s fine, but it’s still worth adding a few soft edges to stop the room from feeling too clinical.

Think About Insulation

Decor is important but don’t forget the practical stuff, like insulation. A big window lets a lot of heat out, especially if it is only single-glazed and you have thin curtains. If you want to avoid heavy costs in your home, you should think about investing in double-glazing if you don’t already have it. Thermal curtains are another simple way to trap the heat in and stop it from escaping through the large window. If you don’t consider insulation in rooms with floor to ceiling windows, they will be very difficult to heat, meaning that the room is uncomfortable in the winter and your energy bill goes through the roof.

Floor to ceiling windows are an amazing feature to have in your home, but you need to follow these important decor tips to get the most out of them.
