The Philippines being a third world country, ever since time immemorial, always had an ongoing scarcity of government funds to provide the basic health care services of the people. That is why children and even adults who need immunizations fail to get the needed shots to prevent getting infected by sickness most especially in times of an outbreak.
I hailed from the lovely Philippine Islands where I spent my childhood and almost my entire adulthood. I could have spent my entire life there if (long distance) love didn’t knock on my door. Then the chance to immigrate to the US and start my own family came.
Prior to admission in the US, we were required to undergo medical examination wherein my and (most importantly), my daughter’s immunizations were updated/completed. When we came here, I immediately noticed the difference at how the basic medical services are administered to the people. If only this can happen in my native country…
Get a Shot. Give a Shot. ®
The good news is that Walgreens joined in a partnership with the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.
Get a Shot. Give a Shot is a Walgreens led campaign promoted through TV commercials, radio, digital, and social media (understandably, social media now has a wider reach and helps spread the word relatively faster). They also tend to advertise and campaign through various digital signage system throughout the store The UN Foundation will promote the campaign through their marketing channels as well.
From September 2nd through October 13th every flu shot or other immunizations you and your kids will receive at Walgreens, will help provide a life-saving vaccine to a child in a developing country.
Immunization is one of the world’s biggest public health success stories. Yet, 1 in 5 children around the globe still lack access to the lifesaving immunizations. Coordinated worldwide vaccination efforts have made significant progress, particularly in reducing cases of measles and polio.
In addition to this campaign, Walgreens has also donated $10 million worth of free flu shot vouchers to Americans that are without health insurance coverage for a flu shot to help drive immunization rates among underserved populations throughout the country.
Honestly, I feel that this campaign is close to my heart. Coming from a developing country myself, I know how hard it is for a mom to live in worry having to rear up your children without immunization.
On the other hand, this is also a challenge for parents to do the same thing, get the shots and keep oneself healthy. Immunizations are not only for kids!!! We must realize that we are so blessed to reside in a country where we can take advantage of these services.
Get a Shot. Give a Shot. ® will not only help you and your family get rid of seasonal flu, but will also help a child in the other side of the world experience the same thing.
I already made a pledge, will you?

I can only imagine how important this cause is to you having seen the effects of a lack of vaccinations. I love that Walgreens makes it so easy for Americans to give vaccinations to those elsewhere in the world. #client
