#GivingTuesday : The Art of Giving Back

11.27.2012 by Icar //

We're done with Thanksgiving, which is such an important event to commemorate. It is indeed a special day to be thankful for all the blessings we received for the past year. In reality, it's not supposed to end alone with giving thanks and being grateful, most of the time we also need to share and make our gratitude more evident especially to those people around us who are in need. This is where the concept of Giving Tuesday comes in.

#GivingTuesday is the collective power of charities, families, businesses and individuals that will transform how people think, talk and participate in the giving season, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are synonymous with holiday shopping. Today, November 27, 2012, giving will be its opening day.

#GivingTuesday is a day to prove that giving back to our communities is part of a great tradition of philanthropy and volunteerism that helps make a nation strong. #GivingTuesday campaign provides a framework for us to contribute to our community and help make this season the biggest giving season yet. This is an inspiration for us to take collaborative action to improve our local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes we support and help create a better world. Our goal is for #GivingTuesday to become a major part of the holiday season, putting giving at the forefront in November rather than an afterthought in December or the New Year.

Our Challenge :

It is a challenge for us to make #GivingTuesday an opportunity to be part of a national celebration a great tradition of generosity, the same thing with Thanksgiving, we should make #GivingTuesday something that everyone can share.  The more people who unite in these efforts, the more we will achieve. Just as the retail sector has benefited from coordinating national shopping days around the holidays, #GivingTuesday wants to do the same thing, giving by uniting under one common purpose – charity.

Our Call to Action :

#GivingTuesday is a special call to action, culminating with a new national day of giving around the annual shopping and spending season and to inspire giving every day.

Make #GivingTuesday create a new narrative around the kickoff of the holiday season by celebrating how we can do much more with our wallets than consume.

#GivingTuesday is supposed to encourage us to do more and give more.

#GivingTuesday will prove that the holidays can be about both giving and giving back, and to prove that we can give as good as we get.

I love this and hope it becomes bigger then Black Friday, Small business Saturday, Cyber Monday. As for my giving, we do Operation Christmas Child boxes-this year was our 4th year and we give six boxes, one per gender and age group. It's over for this year but it's never too late to start next years boxes. Also helping out a family with a bunch of my friends.

This is a great reminder to give back throughout the year, especially with the holidays coming. My daughter's school is doing a can drive this week and I love that our family can give back to the community.

What a great idea! One of our 2012 resolutions was to give back continuously thru the year and we have managed to do it!

I've been wanting to do something like this! We have been blessed for the past years and it's about time we gave back but to the less fortunate people. Thanks for sharing!
